Participating in a cadaver workshop might not be a layperson’s idea of a good time. However, for Integrated Anesthesia Associates attending physicians, medical students, and regional anesthesia fellows, this one-of-a-kind cadaver workshop was a coveted and welcomed opportunity to experience best practices for regional anesthesia.

Held September 25th at the Frank H. Netter School of Medicine, this unique ultrasound-guided regional anesthesia cadaver workshop was proctored by Doctors Vlad Frenk and Theresa Bowling, Director and Co-Director of the regional anesthesia fellowship at St. Vincent’s Medical Center.  IAA’s Doctor Robert Suriani assisted the team.

Both experienced and novice attendees from the Fairfield and Hartford divisions of IAA participated in this highly-rated, uniquely beneficial regional anesthesia education program. MS 1-3 from Frank H Netter School of Medicine, who sponsored the event, also attended the course.

Why use cadavers?

The successful performance of an ultrasound-guided interfascial or peripheral nerve block is a highly complex process involving nerve anatomy, sonf-anatomy needle movement, fascial penetration, and perineural fluid injection.
Cadavers provide an ideal tool for reviewing gross anatomy and learning the sonoanatomy and skills required for performing US-guided regional anesthesia.

Cadaver workshops provide an ethical, one-of-a-kind regional anesthesia educational experience for attendees, whether you are a novice or an experienced regional anesthesiologist.
