Dr. Nomita Bhawal joined the Department of Anesthesiology at St. Vincent’s Hospital in 2010. She serves as Director of the Trans-catheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR) Anesthesia Program at St. Vincent’s. Dr.Bhawal attended medical school at B.J Medical College in Pune, India.

Dr. Bhawal did a surgical internship at Northshore University Hospital in Manhasset, New York (1998-1999) and an anesthesia residency at Yale-New Haven Hospital (1999-2002), where she became proficient at regional blocks. Upon completion of her residency training, Dr. Bhawal was appointed Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology at Yale University, where her practice emphasized regional and ambulatory anesthesia. Later, Dr. Bhawal took a position as Attending Anesthesiologist at Naugatuck Valley Surgery Center in Waterbury, also focusing on outpatient anesthesia care.

Dr. Bhawal undertook further post-graduate fellowship training in Cardiothoracic Anesthesia at Columbia-Presbyterian University Hospital, New York (2009-2010), where she managed complicated cardiac and thoracic cases, including ventricular assist devices, catheter-delivered valvular surgery, cardiac and lung transplantation. Her interest in trans-esophageal echocardiography prompted her to do an elective in advanced TEE, including 3D TEE.

She has presented Grand Rounds at Yale-New Haven Hospital and Columbia-Presbyterian University Hospital and has lectured faculty, fellows and residents at various institutions. She is a committee member of the Committee for Ethics at the Society of Cardiovascular Anesthesiology and a member of the American Society of Anesthesiologists. She is board-certified in anesthesiology by the American Board of Anesthesiologists and a Diplomate of the National Board of Echocardiography for perioperative trans-esophageal echocardiography. She has been appointed Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology at Frank Netter School of Medicine, Quinnipiac University.

Dr. Bhawal lives in Orange, Connecticut with her family and enjoys reading, traveling, music, hiking and cooking.
