Dr. Trevor Sutton’s Team Publishes Study on Bystander Cardiac Arrest Disparities in Connecticut

Dr. Trevor Sutton, an IAA member, recently collaborated with the Department of Cardiology (Heart and Vascular Institute), the Department of Emergency Medicine at HHC, and students from UConn Medical School and the Frank H. Netter School of Medicine at Quinnipiac University. Together, they published an article examining state-wide disparities in bystander treatment and outcomes of witnessed out-of-hospital cardiac arrest in Connecticut.

Using data from the Cardiac Arrest Registry to Enhance Survival (CARES) and in partnership with the American Heart Association and the Red Cross, the team established a state-wide data-sharing collaboration. This enabled them to analyze treatment and outcomes for witnessed out-of-hospital cardiac arrest at the municipal level in Connecticut.

Dr. Sutton hopes that this research will inspire community-level efforts and inform public policies to improve bystander treatment of witnessed out-of-hospital cardiac arrest across all communities in Connecticut.
