Dr. Trevor Sutton and Team’s Research Profiled at 37th Symposium.

Recognized for Innovation in Addressing HealthCare Disparities

On Thursday, March 30, 2023, TPC River Highlands in Cromwell CT hosted the 37th Annual Hartford Healthcare Heart and Vascular Institute Conference.

During this highly anticipated Cardiovascular Symposium, IAA’s Dr. Trevor Sutton, MD, MBA, CPE, and his research team had the pleasure of presenting their poster, Utilization of cardiovascular procedural services by African American and Hispanic Populations at Hartford HealthCare: A health equity initiative at the Hartford Hospital Community Health Center, and discuss their research in HealthCare Equity.

Supported by a Hartford HealthCare Health Equity Research Grant and the American Society of Anesthesiologists Professional Diversity Grant, this research was presented as a poster at the HVI Symposium.

In addition, two recent publications from Dr. Sutton’s research team, in collaboration with leaders from the Heart and Vascular Institute regarding enhanced recovery surgery and coronary artery bypass, were included in the Heart and Vascular Institute Newsletter, which is distributed nationally and was also shared with attendants at the symposium.

Rave Reviews for IAA’s Health Equity Research!

Collectively, the posters that were presented at the 37th Annual Cardiovascular Symposium were recognized by the event’s keynote speaker, telling the audience that the Heart and Vascular Institutes’ engagement in work that addressed health and health care disparities, in addition to the work presented by the speakers on clinical trials, is “the envy of all of us in medicine.”

Why This Research Matters

As Dr. Sutton explains,

“Health Equity is a focal point of medicine today and in the future. We are pleased that IAA was not only invited to participate in the 37th Annual HVI Cardiovascular Symposium, but our research performed in collaboration with Dr. McKay, Dr. Hashim, and other HVI leaders was highlighted for innovation in addressing healthcare disparities. At IAA, health equity is a professional priority, and we are pleased to provide leadership that creates value in our community.”

We at IAA couldn’t agree more and thank Dr. Sutton and his team for bringing this topic into laser focus and dedicating themselves to continued improvements in health equity everywhere.
